New Casio Sports Watch is Compatible With iPhone Casio, which launched its first Casio G-Shock watch with Bluetooth technology in 2011, introduced the latest generation in its series of smartphone-compatible watches at last week’s 2014 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The Casio STB-1000 uses Bluetooth v4.0, with low-energy wireless technology, to enable wearers to check personal fitness data from popular mobile apps, operate a music player on a smartphone, and more.
With the new STB-1000, Casio extends its iPhone compatibility, enabled through Bluetooth v4.0, to the sports-watch category. It is compatible with four iPhone fitness apps: Abvio’s Runmeter, Walkmeter, and Cyclemeter (
www.abvio.com), as well as Wahoo Fitness (
www.wahoofitness.com), all of which are downloadable from the Apple App Store. The Casio STB-1000 can be used to check personal fitness data such as running pace and distance, elapsed time, pulse, cycling speed, and pedal rotations. In addition, it offers all of the essential functions of a modern-day Casio watch, including time display, daily alarms, and a countdown timer.
“This is an ideal sports watch for countless recreational runners who exercise with their iPhones,” said Shigenori Itoh, CEO of Casio America, Inc. “In addition to the compatibility with several apps, it has a battery life up to two years and a versatile, waterproof design that makes it easy to use and wear before, during and after any workout.”
For those who like to listen to music while running and exercising, the Casio STB-1000 allows wearers to operate their iPhone music player without having to access the iPhone itself. Wearers can easily play or stop songs using push-buttons on the watch, while also adjusting the volume or advancing a track. Even without being connected to an iPhone, the new Casio sports watch offers a wide range of useful, sports-specific functions, including the ability to record up to 120 lap times.
Casio plans to expand the number of fitness apps compatible with the STB-1000. By allowing wearers to change their fitness applications without having to change their watch, they will be able to view personal fitness data for a number of different sports which will dramatically increase the convenience of using the STB-1000. Casio says its new sport watch will carry a retail price around $100. Technical specifications for the watch can be found under the photo below.
